What pleases the Lord God, what upsets Him, and why He is happy when you succeed

Dr. Gian C. VillatoroSeptember 27, 202619 min message

The Lord God is not a human being like you and me. He is almighty. As His creation, we cannot fully understand Him.

But how, then, are we humans meant to enjoy life? Well, I did the research about what people like to do for fun.

What people enjoy, and what they don’t

In every single age range, the number one thing everybody wants is some physical activity. Then people love to watch TV and videos. The third thing is to spend time with family. Then quiet hobbies, traveling and friends, music, cooking, resting.

And what do most people not like to do?

“Adult responsibilities.”

Only one group, 71 and older, doesn’t mind them. The one thing they dislike is to lose independence and to be treated as a problem. Naturally, the 12 to 16 year olds hate chores.

So with that in mind, is the Lord always having fun?

What does the Lord do?

Let’s talk about the main things He does.

  • Governance. He is the supreme authority in the whole universe. Whether people believe in Him or not, He rules.
  • Creation. He enjoys the process of creating. And there is maintenance. Think of the weather changes, the cycle of water.
  • Justice. He is fair. As the Prince of Peace and the supreme authority, He does rewarding and punishment. People don’t like that idea much, but He does that.
  • Resources. Remember the parable: one received five talents, another two, and another one. The Lord has a reason why people get more and less.
  • Guidance. The communication He has with humanity, to provide guidance and instructions.

What pleases the Lord God?

Is it possible that the Lord God is pleased with us humans from time to time? Well, of course. So we need to ask ourselves the question, “What pleases the Lord God?”

“Well, the number one thing that the Lord loves to see in you is your obedience and respect.”

1 Samuel 15:22 says, “To obey is better than sacrifice.” And Proverbs 9:10 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”

Two other things please Him very much. One is when you exercise faith, because without faith it is impossible to please the Lord (Hebrews 11:6). And prayer, praying without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

You know, in places like this, anybody can feel inspired to pray. Isn’t it true? You look at the skies. You see nature, you hear sounds, and you say, “Lord God, you are so beautiful.”

But what could be the result of that prayer if you don’t want to obey His commandments? Isaiah 1:19 says clearly that if you willingly obey God, He will bless you. He will bless you, my friend.

If you love Me

The Lord Jesus said something even more important about obedience. John chapter 14, verse 15:

“If you love me, you will do what I have said.”

And that is absolutely critical.

“There is no way that you can say that you love the Lord God with all of your heart when you refuse to obey God’s word.”

When you read the Bible, faith comes to you. You want to follow that voice, that guidance, right? But eventually you will find something that makes you feel convicted. What you want to do and what the Bible says don’t match. There is when you truly show if you love the Lord God: when you do what He says.

God is happy when you succeed

“You know that the Lord God is very happy when He sees you succeed.”

You probably never thought about this. But imagine a father or a mother. What do you feel when you see somebody you love being successful in anything they do?

Jesus said He had completed the work God gave Him (John 17:4). And Philippians 2:13 declares that God helps you want to do what pleases Him and gives you the power to do it.

One of those principles of obeying God is to share what you have been blessed with. Give and you will receive.

“Success is not a coincidence, my friend.”

Success happens to people who work hard. But the success the Lord wants for you is not what this world calls success. It is success according to His standards.

Can you upset the Lord God?

My friend, of course you can. In this beautiful world there are people doing bad things. That is called sin.

“Sin is going to upset the Lord God. Disobedience is going to upset the Lord God.”

You know what is the right thing to do and you refuse to do it. Then there is rebellion, evil and moral corruption. And foolishness. But out of all the things that disappoint the Lord God, the number one thing is unbelief. People who don’t want to believe in the Lord God, in the Bible. They mock the Lord. They mock the church.

So, is God always having fun?

Think of a farmer. He plants the seeds, he waters the plants, and eventually he is ready for the harvest. Of course the Lord God enjoys that. But not everyone wants to do what is right. Everyone is going to have an outcome of their own decisions. And somehow the Lord is able to hold the anger until one day. The Bible calls it the wrath of God.

“So is the Lord God having fun all the time? The answer is he does. He enjoys everything.”

The thing is, He knows that we are messing things up all the time. We have been from the beginning. Remember Adam and Eve. Precisely for that reason, He designed a plan: the sacrificial death of the perfect Lamb of God to die for your sins and my sins, the Lord Jesus Christ.

John 3:16 declares that the Lord God loves the world so much that He sent His only begotten Son to die for you and for me, so that we can be forgiven and become part of the family of God.

And the Lord Jesus said in Matthew 28:19-20: go and make disciples, baptize them, teach them. He is always with us, my friend. Today, open your heart to receive the blessing of being part of the family of God.

One last smile

A young man tried to have fun without Wi-Fi. After 10 minutes he asked, “Is this what people did before the internet, or is there an app for it?”

So let me ask you, my friend. What could you do this week that would make the Lord God happy?

Share this with someone who needs clarity.

Is God always having fun?

Dr. Gian's answer: "So is the Lord God having fun all the time? The answer is he does. He enjoys everything." But he knows that we are messing things up all the time, so he designed a plan: the sacrificial death of the perfect Lamb of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, to die for your sins and my sins.

What pleases the Lord God?

"Well, the number one thing that the Lord loves to see in you is your obedience and respect." 1 Samuel 15:22 says, "To obey is better than sacrifice." Two other things please Him too: when you exercise faith, because without faith it is impossible to please Him (Hebrews 11:6), and prayer, praying without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

How do you show God that you love Him?

The Lord Jesus said in John 14:15, "If you love me, you will do what I have said." Dr. Gian adds: "there is no way that you can say that you love the Lord God with all of your heart when you refuse to obey God's word."

Is God happy when you succeed?

"You know that the Lord God is very happy when He sees you succeed." Think of a father or a mother watching someone they love achieve something. Philippians 2:13 says God helps you want to do what pleases Him and gives you the power to do it. And "Success is not a coincidence, my friend." It is success according to His standards.

What upsets God?

"Sin is going to upset the Lord God. Disobedience is going to upset the Lord God." So do rebellion, evil and moral corruption, and foolishness. But out of all the things that disappoint Him, Dr. Gian says "the number one thing is unbelief."

00:00Intro

[Intro song] Hey, I am Dr. Gian. Life is not a lecture. It's a set of lessons. Pull up a chair. Let's talk about how to live them.

00:32The Lord God is almighty

The Lord God is not a human being like you and me. He is almighty. As His creation, we cannot fully understand Him. But how, then, are we humans meant to enjoy life?

00:46What people enjoy

Well, I did the research about what is what people like to do for fun. And let me show you this full screen. First of all, I want you to see on the top part of the screen, you will see the different age ranges. Every single one of all the ages, the number one thing that everybody wants to do is to have some physical activity. They consider that that is a fun thing to do. And it makes sense. The second thing, people love to watch TV and watch videos. The third thing is to spend time with family. The next one is to have hobbies, but they are quiet. And also in the next level, traveling and spending time with friends are in the same category of three out of all these age ranges. Finally, you see music, cooking, resting, and social media with two pointers. And the last category with one point, some weird things that only one of the age ages chose. Work, games, me time, being at home, gardening, and reading.

02:14What people don't like

But now let me show you in the next screen the things that people don't like to do. And what do you think is the one thing that most ages people don't like to do? Adult responsibilities. There is only one group of people, 71 and older, that they don't dislike adult responsibilities. But I want you to see now in the bottom part of the screen, the group of 71 years old and older, the one thing they dislike is to lose independence and to be treated as a problem. They do not have problem with adult responsibilities. Naturally, the 12 to 16 year old, they hate chores. There are three groups, 12 to 16, 31 to 40, 61 to 70, that they don't care much for intellectual work. And there is another category, which is taking care of children or elderly adults in that range of group, 31 to 40, 41 to 50, and 61 to 60. For some reason, it seems like babysitting or elderly sitting is not one of the things

03:41What does the Lord do?

that we like to do. So with that in mind, is the Lord always having fun? Well, what if we initially talk about the main things he does? Governance, for example, you know, he is the supreme authority in the whole universe. Whether people believe in him or not, he rules.

04:01The Creator

The second thing, obviously, he is the creator. He enjoys the process of creating. And as you know, everything continue developing. There is a continued development in the universe. And there is maintenance. I love to think about this all the time when I am thinking of weather changes, the cycle of water,

04:25Justice

etc. The third thing that the Lord does, he is the administrator of justice. He does that. He is fair. And of course, as such, he as a prince of peace and the supreme authority, he is going to do rewarding and punishment. People don't like much that idea, but he does

04:51Resources

that. The other thing the Lord does is the administration of resources. He says in one of the parables that the Lord Jesus told us, he said that there was a person who received five talents, the other two talents, and the other one. The Lord has a reason why people get more and less. He is the one administrating the resources for humans. And finally, not for that reason, not important,

05:20Guidance

the communication he has with humanity to provide guidance and instructions. When you think about creation, for example, and you see this beautiful area where I am today, for you guys, you just say, "This is wonderful what the Lord has

05:42Is God pleased with us?

done." But is it possible that the Lord God is pleased with us humans from time to time? Well, of course he does. And precisely because he provides guidance and instruction, we need to ask ourselves the question, "What pleases the Lord God?"

06:02Obedience and respect

Well, the number one thing that the Lord loves to see in you is your obedience and respect. 1 Samuel 15:22 talks about that. "To obey is better than sacrifice." And Proverbs 9:10 says, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." You make the Lord happy when you do that.

06:25Faith and prayer

But there are two other things that very interestingly, you will find out that the Lord God is very pleased when you do. One is when you exercise faith, because without faith, it is impossible to please the Lord. Hebrews 11:6, and also prayer, praying without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17, praying without

06:51A place to pray

ceasing. You know, in places like this, anybody can feel motivated, inspired to pray. Isn't it true? You are in a lovely place like this, and then you look at the skies, you look at the background. If there is water, even better. You see nature, you hear sounds, and you say, "Lord God, you are so beautiful. You are wonderful to us." Prayer pleases the Lord God. When you pray, you talk to the Lord God. In the name of Jesus, by the power of the Holy Spirit, you know that you are showing Him faith, and that makes Him happy. But what it could be, the result of that prayer, if you don't want to obey His

07:41If you willingly obey

commandments. So Isaiah 1:19 says clearly that if you willingly obey God, He will bless you. He will bless you, my friend. You know, being in a place as beautiful as this place is, you feel the inspiration to obey God. Sometimes you see your family, you think about your children, or anybody else that you love, and you say, "It's just wonderful what the Lord does," and you like to obey His commandments.

08:10If you love Me

But the Lord Jesus said something even more important about obedience. You know what He says? Gospel of John chapter 14 verse 15. The Lord Jesus said this, "If you love me, you will do what I have said." And that is absolutely critical, because there is no way that you can say that you love the Lord God with all of your heart when you refuse to obey God's word. When you are reading the Bible, when you are in a place like this, reflecting about God, or you are watching and listening to me, faith is going to come to you, and you will start to believe that there is something greater than you, that you want to follow that voice, that guidance,

09:00When you feel convicted

right? But eventually you will find something that will kind of, I will say, make you feel convicted. And there is a contradiction between what you want to do and what the Bible says. There is when you are going to truly show if you love the Lord God, when you do what He says.

09:20God is happy when you succeed

You know that the Lord God is very happy when He sees you succeed. And you probably never thought about this, but imagine a father or a mother. Imagine anybody that loves somebody else. What is the feeling you have when you see somebody that you love achieving something, being successful in anything they do? John 17, verse 4 says that Jesus said that He had completed the work God had given Him. Of course, Philippians 2:13 also declares that God helps you want to do what pleases Him and gives you the power to do it.

10:03Our calling

He wants to do that. In our case, our calling, it has to do with broadcasting Christian programs. That's why you can see us 24-7 broadcasting in many platforms, even TV apps, as you see here. It is really interesting when you see people that are kind of connected with us, and more and more people connecting and listening and watching, which made me think of this guy that was so glued to the TV that when the power went out, he just stared at the black screen and waited for the next episode. That doesn't make any sense, but it happens

10:49Give and you will receive

sometimes. You know, there are principles when you are talking about obeying the Lord God. One of those principles is to share with the kingdom of God, with the Lord God, with the local church or ministries like this, what you have been blessed with. Give and you will receive.

11:08Success by His standards

Success is not a coincidence, my friend. So success is something that happens to people that work hard. But the success that the Lord wants you to have is not like the success this world says to you. This is success. Success according with His standards.

11:31Two lessons to watch

I'm sharing with you right now here two images that are connected with two different teachings. The first one, it's about learning to get up when you are down. Don't stay down. The second one, it's about learning to communicate, Speak or Sink. I encourage you to watch those two lessons. Now, let's talk about the other aspect of God's emotions.

12:04Can you upset the Lord God?

What is that? Is it possible that you can upset the Lord God? My friend, of course it is. You know, in the whole wide world, in places like this, as you see the beauty and you admire the creation of the Lord God, you know that there are people doing bad things. That is called sin. Sin is going to upset the Lord God. Disobedience is going to upset the Lord God. You know what is the right thing to do and you refuse to do it. You are going to upset the Lord. And what can I tell you about rebellion? Do you know anything about Satan and his origin and how he was kicked out from heaven? You need to research about that.

12:45Evil and foolishness

And what can I tell you about evil and moral corruption? Everywhere in the world you see that, correct? You know what else upsets the Lord God? It is when people are fools. We call it foolishness. Some of my friends are a little bit more direct and say, well, he's just being stupid. This is a strong expression, but perhaps it makes sense. However,

13:13Unbelief

out of all the things that you will know the Lord God is disappointed with people, the number one thing is unbelief. Imagine individuals that they just don't want to believe in the Lord God, in the Bible, messages like this, and they mock the Lord. They mock the church. Of course, they mock me and any other preacher. You know, that's just your role.

13:39Does God have fun all the time?

But we need to ask ourselves, does God have fun all the time? What do you think? So, for example,

13:50The farmer

let's watch this illustration here. It's the case of a farmer. He knows what he has to do, right? So he goes to the land, he plants the seeds, he water the plants, he does the fertilizing, and then eventually he's ready for the harvest. Of course, the Lord God is going to enjoy that. But unfortunately, not everyone wants to do what is right. So imagine in this illustration,

14:17Choices and consequences

there are two guys having a fight, but they are like an innate bubble. And this bubble of water inside of a glass is going to have repercussions. But this is the thing that you must understand, is that everyone is going to have an outcome of their own situation by their own decisions. And somehow, the Lord is able to hold the anger

14:42The wrath of God

until one day. Do you know that there is one day that is called the end times, end of times? Things are going to be really, really bad for people that are misbehaving. The Lord's anger. You know, how do we call that in the Bible? The wrath of God. If you are interested in finding more about that, here is the URL so you can explore that. vchurch.us. Go.

15:14His wrath is on hold

But at this point, his wrath is on hold. But everyone lives the consequences of his actions. So is the Lord God having fun all the time? The answer is he does. He enjoys everything. The thing is, he knows that we are messing things up all the time. We have been from the beginning. You remember Adam and Eve, etc. The whole story of us is just exactly that.

15:49The perfect Lamb of God

Precisely for that reason, he needed to design a plan for us. You know what is the plan? To provide a sacrificial death of the perfect Lamb of God to die for your sins and my sins. The Lord Jesus Christ.

16:09John 3:16

John 3:16 declares clearly that the Lord God loves so much the world. That's why he sent his only begotten Son to die for you and for me so that we can be forgiven and become part of the family of God.

16:27Matthew 28:19-20

The Gospels tells us many beautiful things about the Lord Jesus, but he himself says in Matthew 28:19 to 20, guys, there are important things that I want you to do. I want you to do evangelism, discipleship and multiplication. Now some of you are saying, what? Well, yes.

16:52Make disciples

So take a look at this illustration here. It's a kid that is being trained by his dad or the teacher. This kid eventually is going to become a teenager and then one day is going to be an adult that will have his own kids. That is exactly what the Lord Jesus said. Go and make disciples and baptize them. Teach them what I have told you and I will be with you until the last day of your life. He is always with us, my friend. I encourage you today to open your heart to receive the blessing of being part of the family of

17:33More to read

God. If you like to read, I want to encourage you to try this. Here's the URL and enjoy that particular reading. So I hope to see you next time.

17:44A little humor

See ya. A man said, I found a stupid way to have fun. I throw cereal at the wall and call it breakfast art. His friend asked, does it work? He said, no, but it's a cereal killer. A friend said to me, I have fun today by putting my phone on airplane mode and throwing it across the room. Turns out it didn't fly. A young man tried to have fun without Wi-Fi. After 10 minutes, they asked, is this what people did before the internet or is there an app for it?
