Are you aware of the truth around you, the truth of God speaking to you, and the truth about yourself?

Dr. Gian C. VillatoroOctober 21, 202615 min study

Hello, my dear friend. The topic of today is: sooner or later, the truth will come to the light. There is only one passage we are reading today, in the Gospel of Luke. Luke 12:2-3 says:

“Everything that is hidden will be found out, and every secret will be known. Whatever you say in the dark will be heard when it is day. Whatever you whisper in a closed room will be shouted from the housetops.”

Last week, we talked about dishonest influencers in social media. Today, you will hear one more time about this. It is a matter of time. Correct?

Are you aware of the truth around you?

First question. Do you think that everybody is honest with you?

“If you think that everybody is telling you the truth, you are totally dreaming.”

Not just you. Not just me. Everybody. So many people are lying to us all the time, in our own face. They tell you how much they care and love you. But not necessarily they are being truthful.

However, the Lord Jesus said it. Sooner or later, the truth will come to the light. It’s just a matter of time.

That doesn’t mean you become a skeptical person, doubting and questioning every single person around you. That is pointless. The bottom line is that not everybody is honest.

“Your job is to slowly discover who are the people that constantly lie to you.”

And if you cannot trust this person, simply you don’t trust this person. That has nothing to do with you. It’s entirely about that individual.

Are you aware of the truth of God speaking to you?

Here is another interesting question. Do you read the Bible? Don’t lie. And when you read it, do you truly reflect on the scripture? Or do you think that what you are doing is reading history, or some sort of encyclopedia?

I hope that’s not how you see it.

“The Bible is the Word of God. It’s the Lord God talking to you.”

And He will tell you things, even when you are reading history. When you are reading names and descendants in a genealogy, and places and stuff, still the Lord God is talking to you.

Honest with yourself

That has to do entirely with your ability to be honest with yourself. It is like going to the mirror. You see the good things, and you see the other, not good things.

“What are you going to do with that image on the mirror? Are you going to break the mirror?”

Or you are just not going to the mirror, because you don’t want to see the truth.

The honesty God expects

Honesty is not just about knowing what is right and what is wrong. That is partially honesty.

“But the honesty God is expecting of you is that you see the bad things about you and you say, those are the things that I don’t want to do.”

Because if you are aware of the truth about yourself, but you don’t want to change, you don’t want to do anything about it?

“I don’t know if that is worse than just being dishonest. At least the dishonest is honestly a liar.”

You are aware of the bad things you are thinking or saying, and you just say, “Well, that’s just me.” I don’t think it’s a good idea, my friend.

Revealed here and in heaven

Now you are thinking, “What truth? If God knows that I am this way, He knows it. So what’s the big deal?”

“The problem is that whatever you say, one day will be revealed by the Lord God, not just here on this life, particularly will be revealed in heaven.”

How do you feel about that? You know that the Lord God knows everything, right? He is aware of what you are thinking, your desires in your heart, your plans. He knows exactly what you are thinking right now about me, the preacher.

You know the judicial system. The police come and capture the criminal. “You are under arrest. You have the right to remain silent.” And then? Whatever you say might be and will be used against you in a court of law.

Even in the dark, even in the quiet place of your own thinking, the Lord is aware of it. Do you want that?

The abuse of grace

Somebody says, “Well, I’m forgiven by the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. All my sins are forgiven.” But here is the thing that you need to consider: the abuse of grace.

Certainly the Lord Jesus Christ puts Himself in a position to be the attorney defending you. He says, “Father, I am here instead of this person.” It is a fact. But when you refuse to change, when you say, “I don’t care. I am who I am,” do you truly believe that the Lord Jesus, who died for you, will say, “Oh, sure, not a problem”?

“Because there is grace for all of our sins. There is grace enough to forgive us.”

Begin the process of changing

“The best thing you can do is just repent and say, honestly, I don’t want to face God one day in heaven and he’s going to bring that up.”

Starting today, the day that you are watching this biblical message, you might say, “I get it.” And then you begin the process of changing. Remember this: Jesus for real wants to forgive you. Open your heart.

One last smile

A compulsive liar went to his shrink and said, “I need help with my memory.” The shrink asked him why. “Because I lie all the time, and I need to remember which version of the truth I told everyone.”

So, my friend. How honest are you with yourself?

Questions this study answers

Questions & answers.

What did Jesus mean in Luke 12:2-3?

Everything hidden will be found out, and every secret will be known. Dr. Gian puts it simply: "sooner or later, the truth will come to the light. It's just matter of time." It applies to the people around you, to God speaking to you through the Bible, and to the truth about yourself.

Is everybody honest with you?

No. "If you think that everybody is telling you the truth, you are totally dreaming." Doubting every single person is pointless, though. "Your job is to slowly discover who are the people that constantly lie to you." If you cannot trust someone, that is about them, not about you.

Is the Bible just history?

No. "The Bible is the Word of God. It's the Lord God talking to you." Even when you read names, descendants and places in a genealogy, "still the Lord God is talking to you."

What kind of honesty does God expect from you?

More than knowing what is right and what is wrong. "The honesty God is expecting of you is that you see the bad things about you and you say, those are the things that I don't want to do." Seeing the truth about yourself and refusing to change may be worse than being dishonest.

If I am forgiven, does it matter whether I change?

"There is grace enough to forgive us." But Dr. Gian warns about the abuse of grace: refusing to change and saying, I am who I am. "The best thing you can do is just repent" and begin the process of changing.

00:00Introduction: episode 206

Hello, my dear friend. Welcome to our episode 206 today, October 21st, 2026. The topic of today is, sooner or later, the truth will come to the light.

00:15One passage from Luke

There is one only passage that we are reading today in the Gospel of Luke. We read in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Please, Lord, guide us through this story. Amen. Let's read. Thank you, J.H.O., for

00:29Luke 12:2-3

the Scripture on the screen. Luke 12:2-3. Everything that is hidden will be found out, and every secret will be known. Whatever you say in the dark will be heard when it is day. Whatever you whisper in a closed room will be shouted from the housetops.

00:50Last week: dishonest influencers

Last week, we talked about dishonest influencers in social media. Today, you will hear one more time about this. It is matter of time. Correct?

01:07Are you aware of the truth around you?

First question. Are you aware of the truth around you? Do you think that everybody is honest with you? You are dreaming. If you think that everybody is telling you the truth, you are totally dreaming. Unfortunately, not just you or just me, but everybody, we have so many people that are lying all the time to us in our own face. And they can't even tell you things that are very personal, and they tell you how much they care and love you. But not necessarily they are being truthful.

02:03Sooner or later, the truth will come to light

However, the Lord Jesus said, sooner or later, the truth will come to the light. It's just matter of time. Not that you are going to be this kind of skeptical person doubting and questioning if every single person around you is honest, because it's pointless. The bottom line is not everybody

02:28Discover who lies to you

is honest. Your job is to slowly discover who are the people that constantly lie to you. That is one thing you should do. And then you realize, well, if I cannot trust this person, simply you don't trust this person. And that has nothing to do with you. It's entirely about that

02:50Are you aware of the truth of God speaking to you?

individual. But here is another interesting question. Are you aware of the truth of God speaking to you? So, for example, every time you read the Bible, if you read the Bible, do you read the Bible? Don't lie. Do you truly reflect on the scripture? When you reflect on the scripture, let's suppose that you are the kind of person that every day takes time to go to the Bible and read and reflect on whatever you are reading and studying. When you are there, do you think that what you are doing is reading history or some sort of encyclopedia? Do you think that's the case? I hope it's not how you see it,

03:35The Bible is the Word of God

because the Bible is the Word of God. It's the Lord God talking to you. And He will tell you things, even if you are reading history in the Bible. When you are reading names and descendants in genealogy and places and stuff, still the Lord God is talking to you. Are you aware of the truth of God speaking to you?

03:59Honest with yourself

And that has to do entirely with your ability to be honest with yourself.

04:06The mirror

It is like going to the mirror. You are going to be honest with yourself. You see yourself in the mirror and you see these good things, these other not good things. What are you going to do with that image on the mirror? Are you going to break the mirror? Or you are just not going to the mirror because you don't want to see the truth. That is what we are talking today, is about the appreciation of the truth, the truth of God when He is talking to you through the Bible, and your ability to face the truth yourself. Your absolutely pure desire of honesty.

04:59The honesty God expects

Now, honesty is not just about knowing what is right and what is wrong and say, whatever, you know, that is partially honesty. But the honesty God is expecting of you is that you see the bad things about you and you say, those are the things that I don't want to do. Because if you just are aware of the truth about yourself, but you don't want to change, you don't want to do anything about it, I don't know if that is worse than just being dishonest.

05:47Aware, but unwilling to change

At least the dishonest is honestly a liar. But when someone is honestly knowing what is going on with their life, let's talk about you. You are aware of the bad things you are thinking or saying, and you just say, well, that's just me. I don't think it's a good idea, my friend. You know, sooner or later, the truth will come to the light. Those are the words from the Lord Jesus. It's just matter of time.

06:19“What truth?”

Now you are thinking, what truth? Well, if God knows that I am this way, He knows it. So what's the big deal? Okay, well,

06:29Revealed here and in heaven

the problem is that whatever you say, one day will be revealed by the Lord God, not just here on this life, particularly will be revealed in heaven. How do you feel about that?

06:50The Lord God knows everything

You know that the Lord God knows everything, right? He is aware of what you are thinking, your desires in your heart, your plans. He is aware of the things that you say about ABC person. He knows exactly what you are thinking right now about me, the preacher. One day, those things that you are thinking and saying in your mind about anybody including those things, the Lord might reveal them.

07:29You have the right to remain silent

Imagine that, you know, that in the judicial system, there is a crime and then there are orders to capture the criminal. Eventually, the police come and capture the criminal. Do you remember what they say? It says, such and such, you are under arrest. You have the right to what? To remain silent. And then they say, but whatever you, do you remember? But whatever you say might be and will be used against you in a court of law. Because whatever you say, eventually, even in the dark, even in the quiet place of your own thinking, whatever is there, the Lord is aware of it and he might use it against you. Do you want that?

08:33Three issues with the truth

So there is an issue with people lying. There is an issue when people don't want to hear the truth from God. And there is an issue when people are aware of their wrongdoings and they don't want to change. Today, I am encouraging you and challenge you to think about this. Somebody says, well, you know, I'm forgiven by the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. So whatever you say, preacher, is not going to apply because all my sins are forgiven. But here is the thing that you need to consider.

09:10The abuse of grace

The abuse of grace. Certainly the Lord Jesus Christ puts himself in a position to be the attorney defending you and say, Father, I am here instead of this person. Certainly it is a fact. But do you truly believe that when you refuse to change and you just intentionally say, I don't care. I am who I am. I think and say, whatever I want is my right. Do you think that that behavior, that attitude, that way of thinking is going to be approved by the Lord Jesus who is saying, I die for you. And the Lord Jesus will say, oh, sure, not a problem. You keep on being the same person you want to be, and it's OK with me.

10:22Grace enough to forgive us

That is what I want you to think about. Because there is grace for all of our sins. There is grace enough to forgive us. But the best thing that you can do, especially now that you are here in this, that everything you say, think your desires and intentions can be used against you.

10:44Repent and begin to change

The best thing you can do is just repent and say, honestly, I don't want to face God one day in heaven and he's going to bring that up. No. Starting today, the day that you are watching me with this encouragement, with this biblical message, you might say, I get it. Thank you, Pastor Gian. I appreciate that. And then you begin the process of changing. You know what is going to change you is the constant exposition of yourself to the world. Thank you for being here. Now, remember this.

11:22Jesus wants to forgive you

Jesus for real wants to forgive you. Open your heart. And now with probably peace, joy in your heart.

11:34A little humor

Let me share with you this humor. A compulsive liar was with his shrink and said, I need help with memory. So the shrink asking, and why do you need help with your memory? The guy said, well, because I lie all the time and I need to remember which version of the truth I told everyone. Three friends decided to go to a retreat and they are in a lake. They go to a boat fishing and they are there talking about life. All kinds of things. And at some point they say, I feel that it's time for us to come clean here. What do you mean? Jump in the water and take a bath? Now I'm talking about opening our hearts. Come clean with each other. Tell our dirty secrets. The things that we are doing wrong. Oof. Deal? Oh yeah. But let's promise that we are not going to tell. Promise? Promise? Promise? Okay. So the first guy says, well, I will tell you that my problem is I have addictions. You didn't know these guys, but I am using alcohol and drugs constantly. And I need help. In fact, I just feel that I failed constantly on that matter. The guys, the other two said, we understand. The second guy said, well, my problem is not with that. My problem is with women and being unfaithful all the time. Cheating on my wife is just killing me. It seems like I can't stop doing that. I just need to say it because I need help. Okay. What about you? What about you? That guy is there saying, guys, I feel horrible about this because my problem is that I cannot keep a secret. There are two girls talking and one says to the other, you know what? I think you are really delusional. And she says, I don't think so. But to be honest, I think that I live rent free in everyone's mind. A friend corrected her and said, no, you are living rent free in your own imagination.
